Elizabeth had first married an Ezekiel Merrill of Showhegan who had died and left her 2 sons. It was said she and her sister Hannah grew up with their parents on Plum Island, MA (off Newburyport) where their parents tended the lighthouse. Elizabeth died in childbirth with a daughter that did not survive. p. 10
