Henry and Martha in 1870 census of Waterville with 3 daughters Mary age 12, Laura age 8 and Amy age 6, Sarah Ingalls age 15 and Caroline W. age 25 and William H. age 1 - all born ME. Henry's occ. 'Trader Dry Goods R. T.' Henry and Martha A. with daughters Mary 15, Laura 13 and Amy age 11 are in 1880 census of Chillicothe, Missouri - Henry's occ 'Mayor of the City of Chillicothe'. Henry and Hannah are in 1900 census of Los Angeles, CA with one daughter Amy born Sept. 1868 Maine so must have been by first wife because census has them married 12 years. There was a letter from Henry to niece Helen dated 1912 from Los Angeles. Henry is in 1920 census of Los Angeles 'widowed' with daughter Amy. In death records of CA there is an Amy Hatch Thompson born 7 Sept 1868 Maine died 14 Dec 1959, place Los Angeles, CA - mother's maiden name Earl.
'In 1881 - 82 there was considerable excitement in the town and throughout the county over the proposed extension of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (called the Burlington mid Southwestern), from Browning through the county via Chillicothe. A line was surveyed - that portion south of Grand River being that now substantially followed by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul. Mr. Henry Hatch, a former citizen of the town, was at the head of the scheme and made many speeches and did much other work to induce the citizens to subscribe a certain amount in aid of the contemplated enterprise. But after a great deal of talk and what is called "work," it turned out that the entire scheme was a "sell," having its origin in a desire on the part of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Road to frighten the owners of the Hannibal and St. Joseph into a sale of that road to the "Q." interest. It was never intended to build the road through Chillicothe. It was built from Laclede into Carroll county, via Sumner, or Cunningham, and now has its western terminus at Bogard.'

Notes:

William was of Hallowell at marriage. He was elected postmaster of West Waterville in 1843. Parents might be William Hatch and Rachel Colbourn and he christened in Pittston Apr. 11, 1807. Selina Avery age 11 with family in 1850 census.

William married Barrows, Betsey in 30-NOV-1830 in Augusta, ME. Betsey (daughter of Barrows, Elisha and Allen, Elizabeth 'Betsey') was born in 20-MAY-1807 in Sidney, ME; died in 1-JAN-1894 in Oakland, ME; was buried in Lakeview Cem., Oakland, ME. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
